Applying to GWCHSS
We offer three different programs for students - see below.
Ed. Opt. programs admit students across all reading levels. Students are grouped into Low, Middle, and High categories based on their state ELA exam score. Offers are made based on the number of seats in each category. To see your child’s category, go to your student's profile and scroll down to "Ed. Opt. Category".
PRIORITY GROUPS
Priority to Queens students or residents, then to New York City residents
ELIGIBILITY
Open to all students from Queens. We are looking for students:
• With excellent attendance and punctuality
• With passing grades who want to pursue careers in science and its related fields

Veterinary Science Institute
Q45A
The Veterinary Science program is a NYS approved CTE Program!
Students will engage in:
- Vet Science Lab techniques
- hands-on activities and simulations
- care of small animals
- Field experiences
Pre-Nursing Institute Program
Q45B
Students will study foundational core courses that are theoretically based coupled with clinical practicum experiences, clinical internships and rotations, simulations and job shadowing that are appropriate to the specialty.
Students enrolled in the program will develop skills in attention to detail, strong communication skills, and an energetic passion for helping others are among the many traits needed for professionals working in healthcare.
This program will guide students in attaining the content-specific knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills and values that are essential for professional nurse leaders, managers, other health-related professions, including the ability to make sound judgement and address the health needs of diverse cultural groups within the urban community.
Carver Research Institute
Q45C
This program is a comprehensive program that allows students to pursue interests in Science, Math and their related fields.
Particular emphasis is placed on skills in measurement, journaling, observation, prediction, experimentation, use of science tools, and formulating questions.
Students will be expected to conduct research and participate in field experiences, symposia, expositions, and competitions.
